1. What Is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a high-intensity fitness program that combines elements of weightlifting, gymnastics, and cardiovascular conditioning, done through functional movements. It's designed to improve overall fitness by focusing on 10 physical skills, namely:

  • Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance – The ability of the body’s systems to gather, process, and deliver oxygen

  • Stamina – The ability of body systems to process, deliver, store, and utilize energy

  • Strength – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply force

  • Flexibility – the ability to maximize the range of motion at a given joint

  • Power – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply maximum force in minimum time

  • Speed – The ability to minimize the cycle time of a repeated movement

  • Coordination – The ability to combine several distinct movement patterns into a singular distinct movement

  • Agility – The ability to minimize transition time from one movement pattern to another

  • Balance – The ability to control the placement of the body’s center of gravity in relation to its support base

  • Accuracy – The ability to control movement in a given direction or at a given intensity

2. Can I Do CrossFit If I’m a Total Beginner?

Absolutely! CrossFit is designed to “scalable,” which means every workout can be adjusted to target your specific fitness level. Our coaches will tell you how to adjust the weights, the movements, and/or the repetitions in each workout to make it accessible for your, regardless of experience.

3. Do I Need to Be in Excellent Shape to Start CrossFit?

Nope! CrossFit is designed to help you improve your fitness, and you shouldn’t worry about being in good condition when you start. CrossFit will meet you where you’re at, and get you fitter from there.

4. Will CrossFit Help Me Lose Weight?

Yes, CrossFit can be an effective weight loss tool. Even more importantly, it will change your body composition. The combination of high-intensity workouts and nutrition guidance can help you shed fat while you build lean muscle.

5. Is CrossFit Dangerous?

Safety is a top priority in CrossFit gyms. Proper form and technique are emphasized, and coaches are there to ensure you exercise safely. As you can imagine, it would be hard for CrossFit gyms to stay in business if their members were hurt all the time!

6. How Often Should I Do CrossFit Workouts?

That depends on lots of factors, including how much you’re able to sleep, eat, and otherwise focus on recovery, your age, and your goals. Many people start with 3-4 sessions per week and work their way up to 5 sessions. But we encourage people to listen to their body and give themselves time to recover if they’re feeling sore.

7. What Should I Wear to a CrossFit Class?

Workout attire and supportive athletic shoes. Although some people like to buy special shoes and equipment, it isn’t necessary. But make sure you bring a water bottle—you’re going to sweat.

8. Is CrossFit Expensive?

CrossFit is definitely more expensive than large gym chains that don’t provide personalized coaching and a supportive community. We’re confident that even though CrossFit is more expensive, you get more out of your investment in CrossFit than you do in other gym memberships, making it the best value for investing in your health and fitness.

9. What Makes CrossFit Different from Other Workouts?

CrossFit's emphasis on functional movements, intensity, and community sets it apart from other fitness programs. Workouts are constantly varied, preventing boredom and promoting overall fitness.

10. How Do I Get Started with CrossFit?

To begin your CrossFit journey, find a local CrossFit gym (or "box") with certified trainers. Most gyms offer introductory classes to help you get started safely.
